| Description |
The ZANZ Sports Day 2010 was held on 30th January at Wakaaranga School. Mother Nature blessed us with a great day for this event. We were lucky to have a sunny day with a steady breeze to keep everyone cool as they spent a fun day out with their families and friends. Although dark clouds loomed in the afternoon, we were only subjected to a brief and cooling shower.
The Committee was on the grounds of Wakaaranga School by 8 a.m. measuring, cutting, hammering and tying ropes down to create lanes for the races. We started with the under 6 races and steadily made our way through the heats and finals of 28 different races which had a total of 154 participants. We finally locked up and went home at 8:30 p.m.
In spite of all the falls, cut lip, grazed knees and elbows, fainting spell, cut nose and a brief visit to the A&E, everyone went home exhausted and with smiles on their faces. The lucky winners also walked away with medals and yummy chocolates.Resultsfor each race are below.
A lot of time and effort went into organising this mammoth event and the ZANZ ManagementCommittee would like to sincerely thank all the volunteers who helped us throughout the day. We couldn’t have made this event a success without your help and support.
Special thanks go to Benifer Irani for convincing & encouraging us to take on this event and having the exhausting job of announcing all the races and the winners. We would like to thank Zubbin Navroji, Burzis Ustad, Delsey Daruwalla, Anahita Hansotia and Kainaz Variava for working hard throughout the day. We would also like to thank Rushad Anklesaria for making the medals and Rohinton Fitter for taking pictures during the event.
Also, thanks to the Zoroastrian Community Trust of New Zealand (ZCT) for feeding the crowd with yummy food and drinks. Their tasty sausages, vada pav, lamb and chicken cutlets, kheema and chicken mayo rolls, popsicles and delicious falooda and tea were devoured and appreciated by all.
Porus and Benifer Irani have donated two rotating shields for this and future ZANZ Sports Days. The shields are given to the male and female who win the most individual & mixed events. The proud winners for 2010 were:
ZANZ All Parsis Athletic Meet - Women Champion - Shiromi Billiardmaker
ZANZ All Parsis Athletic Meet - Men Champion - Percy Mehta

| Description |
Dear Friends,
Twenty-four children and their parents enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon at Extreme Edge Indoor Climbing, Panmure . After a brief lesson on safety, the kids were off. They climbed a wide variety of walls with varying levels of difficulty. Some of the parents took on the walls as well and succeeded with flying colours. There was a short break for juice, chips and cake which the children scoffed down quickly. They were back on the walls for a second session until it was time to go home. The ZANZ management committee would like to thank all parents who helped their children have a great time by acting as 'Human Belays'. We hope that all the children went home happy and ready for an early bed-time. Regards, ZANZ Management Committee. |

| Event | ZANZ Youth Charades Night |
| Venue | Farm Cove Intermediate |
| Description | A very first in the ZANZ event list, Charades Night was intended for the youth to enjoy an evening of coming together and having a fun night with friends. And they sure had one! With 46 participants attending the event, the teams were made on the spot by pulling names out of a hat. Six strong teams mixed with kids of all ages were named by teammates calling themselves – The A Team, Johnny, Raju, Vaccha, Super 7 and TG.
Each participant from their team had a turn at acting out what was thrown at them from 5 different categories which included – names of movies, songs, quotes or books, celebrities and TV Series. All the teams were pretty tied up throughout the game until the end of the night playing two rounds under each category. To break the tie, the top three teams played the mixed bag round for the big prize. After another close round, the last round was played to see which team guessed the name fastest. At this challenge 'The A Team' succumbed to take the 2nd runner ups place. Team 'Raju' were the Runner ups winning movie vouchers and team 'Super7' was announced as charades champs, winning movie vouchers and bonus entertainment vouchers. No one left the event empty handed, all the participants left with mouthfuls of chocolates and amazing memories of the night. A very big thank you goes to Benifer Irani and her daughter Zeenia Irani for all the support and time provided in making this event such a success that it was.
Super 7 - Winners
Team Raju – Runner up

| Event | ZANZ Parsi New Year Jashan |
| Venue | Te Tuhi Centre, Pakuranga |
| Description | "A jashan (the Indian-Zoroastrian word) or jashne (the Iranian-Zoroastrian word) is a religious thanksgiving ceremony, or one that celebrates or commemorates an important event. Jashne means celebration or festival in Farsi. Jashan is derived from jashne as well as the Avestan word yasna* (cf. Vedic Sanskrit yajna). A jashan / jashne is therefore a name for an event that is part of the zoroastrian calendar such as Jashne Mehergan, as well as the religious ceremony conducted during a special occasion". https://www.heritageinstitute.com/zoroastrianism/index.htm
Our Parsi New Year Jashan was hosted by ZANZ at the Te Tuhi Centre in Pakuranga. Since Navroze (19th August 2010) fell on a working day, the committee decided to schedule the Jashan at 4.00 p.m. to enable our community to attend in large numbers. The Jashan was conducted by Viraf Fatakia and Jamsheed Tata with assistance from Khushroo Master, Riyasp Bhandari, Karan Bhandari, Perzaan Mehta, Furzan Rao, Navzad Chhor and Rishad Katki. ZANZ organized a badminton tournament at the HRC on 18th Sept 2010. Last year this event proved very popular and hence we decided to have a repeat this year. This year we also decided to invite juniors' to participate based on feedback received last year. In this year's tournament we had 45 participants and we conducted Junior's singles, Men's singles, Women's singles, Men's doubles and Women's doubles tournaments. Our congratulations to the following winners and runners up in their respective categories: Men's Singles
Women's Singles
Men's Doubles
Women's Doubles:
Junior Singles
We had a prize giving ceremony where the winners were felicitated with movie tickets and the runners up were given a box of chocolates. Everyone enjoyed the event and the place was reminiscent of the Parsee colony atmosphere. Kids were literally playing in tiny spaces between the courts. An excellent performance by all and in particular our upcoming star of the day was Sanaya Wadia. Shahanoor Contractor and Cherag Daruwalla proved to be the master players of this tournament. We would like to thank all our volunteers for umpiring the games and helping us in the end to tidy up the hall. This tournament was controlled by Paeterasp Vevaina from the very beginning and he proved to be a valuable resource for the committee. Everybody pitched in and provided support throughout the tournament so thanks to all of you. Delicious lamb cutlets and chicken roll were served by Malcolm and Kainaz Variava. The food was enjoyed by all the players and all others present. A comment heard by one of our committee member was "Ketlu soju ramej aapra poryao, shu talent che aapra bachao ma, kharekhar aai ZANZ avi kai event kare to maja aavi jai". Perhaps that speaks volumes for this event. Regards, |

| Event | ZANZ Prayer Class Kid's Natak |
| Venue | Bucklands Beach Hall |
| Description | The ZANZ prayer class children made their parents and families very proud when they gave a fantastic performance entitled "The Story of Creation" on Saturday 16th October at the Bucklands Beach Hall. This performance was the culmination of weeks of hard practice during prayer classes since March this year. The audience applauded the children's efforts with loud clapping, cheers and whistling. The children left the stage with huge smiles on their faces.
The director of this great performance was our very own talented Thespian, Mr. Godrej Engineer. The ZANZ committee would like to express our gratitude to Godrej for dedicating a lot of time and effort into this show. We would also like to thank Yutaaz Saher for being a fantastic assistant director, coaching the children and helping Godrej at all the rehearsals. We would also like to thank all our volunteers who were working behind the scenes to get this play together. There is a lot of talent in our children and we hope to showcase it at many more dramatic performances in the future. Kind Regards,ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ Antakshari Competition |
| Venue | Bucklands Beach Hall |
| Description | There was fierce competition amongst the 8 teams that battled at the ZANZ Antakshari Night on October 16th 2010 at Bucklands Beach Hall. The MC, Baji Antia, along with his talented team (Paeterasp Vevaina, Zubbin Navroji and Armin Mehta) did a fantastic job organising the songs, video and audio clips to challenge the 48 brave participants. Malcolm and Kainaz Variava's yummy sandwiches, rolls, samosas and fried rice kept everyone happy and full through the night.
We have some wonderful singers in our community and even audience members got a chance to show their musical talent. The competition was close and towards the end, every point was important. Unfortunately, only one team could be crowned the ultimate champions but the camaraderie and sportsmanship shown by the participants made everyone a winner and we all walked away with smiles on our faces and songs in our hearts. The top 3 teams were: First Prize: Desi Kalaakar (103 Points)
We would like to acknowledge and thank Baji and his team for investing a lot of time and effort during the initial preparation for this event and on the night itself. The antakshari competition went on for 3 hours but they had enough songs for another hour or so. To say they were well-prepared would be an understatement. We are already looking forward to the next antakshari competition. We would also like to the thank those of you who stayed back and helped the committee put away tables and chairs. For every ZANZ event, the committee is present an hour before and at least an hour after everybody goes home so any help is most appreciated. Kind Regards,ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ Christmas Party |
| Venue | Bucklands Beach Hall |
| Description | The 2010 ZANZ Christmas Party was held on 11th December 2010 at Bucklands Beach Hall. All the children who attended had a wonderful time. The party started with each child selecting a picture for their SandArt activity. Then their imaginations took over as they patiently filled in each section of the picture with different colours of sand. Some parents also got into the spirit and helped out. Once their masterpieces were laminated and ready to go home, the children had a bite to eat before SANTA came to hand out presents to all the good boys and girls. This year, Santa was extra-special as "he" spoke several languages and made the children dance and play before handing out the presents and candy canes. The ZANZ committee would like to thank our special Santa for making the party fun and entertaining for young and old present and hope that "he" can come back next year. We wish all our Zoroastrian friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Regards, ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ TT Championship 2012 |
| Venue | Pakuranga Community Hall |
| Description | Where were you on Sunday 26th Feb 2012? Did you know that ZANZ had organised a Table Tennis Tournament and at 2:30 p.m. the Finals started amidst a crowd of 90 people all cheering and clapping for the finalists? Can you believe this happening in Aotearoa? For the adults, it was like the floodgates of the past had opened up, reminding them of their youthful days in our Parsee baugs playing TT and enjoying every moment. Please read for further details.
ZANZ organised the tournament at the Pakuranga Community Hall. There were 36 participants who displayed fantastic skills and enthusiasm. The volunteers started organising the tables & nets at 11 a.m. and right from the word "GO", a potpourri of kids, teenagers and adults started practising some shots. With the draws all put up for display, the participants were eager to see who they were playing against and what their chances were to get to the finals. Our TT tournament had four categories Junior Singles, Men Singles, Women Singles and Jumble Doubles. All games were played for 11 points and we decided to have best of 3 games for the rounds till quarter finals. For semi-finals and finals, the winner was decided on the basis of best of 5 games. In the Junior category, the final was played between Zane Karai and Rishad Manecksha. Rishad won the tournament 11-7, 11-9 and 14-12. In the Women's finals it was a repeat from 2 years ago, the classic clash between the Sarkari ladies. Veera Sarkari played against her daughter Roxanne (last year's winner). But this time the tables were turned. Veera played some excellent shots which were well returned by Roxanne. Experience won against youth and Veera won 11-8, 8-11, 11-5 and 11-7. By 2:30 p.m. there was palpable excitement in the air as only one table was left in the centre for the finalists to play. Minoo Master kindly obliged to referee the finals. We started with the Jumble doubles final which was played by Sohrab Irani & Jarafshan Mistry against Dinyar Irani & Bilkish Vazifdar. Such was the intensity of this final that it extended to five games. Every time a shot was played or defended the crowd cheered the players. Dinyar Irani & Bilkish Vazifdar won the title beating their opponents 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 7-11 and 11-6. It was 3.00 p.m. and time for the main showdown. The Men Finals were about to begin. Sohrab Irani (winner of the last ZANZ TT tournament) was to play against Dinyar Irani. It was a classic tale of the clash between the experienced, cool and composed Sohrab against Dinyar's youth, vigour and exuberance. The final was exciting and pulsating with crowd cheers and calls; at times nail-biting, and mesmerising the whole atmosphere. An awesome display of chops, top spins, shots and equally good defence was enjoyed by all. Dinyar won the title with scores 15-17, 11-7, 12-10 and 11-6. It was a very exciting day for all participants and spectators. The prize giving ceremony followed and a special prize was given to Porus Kateli for his help with refereeing and setting up of tables. Minoo Master was also thanked for refereeing the finals. We would like to thank Viraf Todywalla for donating tickets to the upcoming show IndiKing as prizes. Other prizes included movie tickets and chocolates for the winners and runners up. No ZANZ event is complete without comments from Benifer Irani and she proved to be an excellent amusement with her Parsee comments "Fori naak", "Thaaki gyoj" etc. Also, no Parsee event is complete without food. The youth branch of ZANZ (Zoroastrian Youth of New Zealand) had food stalls set up. They sold Chutney and Vegetable sandwiches, Lamb Cutlets, Bhel, Kulfi, Raro, Mava cakes and Tea with Batasas. It was nice to see so many of our youngsters involved in fundraising for the upcoming World Zoroastrian Youth Congress to be held here in NZ in 2015. They were meticulous and well-organised. They will need your support over the next few years as they continue to fundraise for the big event. We take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who helped us to set up the tables, referee and clean the hall. Big thanks to the spectators who proved to be an excellent audience and cheered for all the participants. A final thanks to Minoo Siganporia and Paeterasp Vevaina for helping ZANZ organise this event. They worked hard on the day and the weeks prior to the event to make sure everything went smoothly on the day. Best regards, ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ Navroze function and Avan Roj nu Parab |
| Venue | Motuihe Island |
| Description | Over 100 people attended the ZANZ cruise and picnic on Sunday 25th March 2012. Mother Nature set a few hearts fluttering by offering morning skies filled with dark clouds and rain showers. By 10 a.m. there were blue skies and the ZANZ committee breathed sighs of relief as we headed to central Auckland towards the ferry terminal.
At the terminal, each passenger was handed a delicious and filling boxed lunch. The chartered ferry left the terminal and we headed towards Motuihe Island. At the ferry terminal, as we waited for the last few people to board the ferry, we were entertained by a spectacular air show. After disembarking from the ferry, we came together on the beach and held a humbundagi. After this people, were free to explore the island, swim, build sand castles, play beach games or just relax. On the island we were informed that there was going to be a special event on the island that afternoon. Sixty tuatara were being released back into the wild and we were invited to be part of the welcoming ceremony. In the culmination of an eight-year-project, the tuatara were flown by helicopter from Lady Alice Island in Northland to their new home, Motuihe Island. Some of us were there to witness this historical event. At 3:00 p.m. we left the island and sailed back to Auckland after a fun and relaxing day at the beach. The ZANZ committee would like to thank Hosi and Maharukh Katki for catering the picnic lunch that everyone enjoyed. We would also like to thank Firoza Saklatwalla for making over 100 delicious dar ni poris. We have received a lot of positive feedback from the community regarding this event and hope to host more unique events in the coming years. Kind Regards, ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | Tip Top Ice Cream Factory Visit |
| Venue | Tip Top Ice Cream Factory, Auckland |
| Description | Nine adults and twenty-six children visited the Tip Top Ice cream factory on Wednesday, 18th April for a tour. The tour started with Madelaine (our tour guide) telling us about the health and safety rules we had to follow once we were in the factory.
Once inside the factory, we were given a step by step tour of how Tip Top make their famously creamy ice cream. We also watched ice cream production from enclosed viewing galleries. There was a smelling competition where we had to identify 4 different flavours of ice cream. The children did a LOT better than the adults! After a Q&A session, we FINALLY got to the best part of the whole tour... getting a chance to sample one (or in some cases two) Tip Top ice cream cone/bar while watching a short DVD about the history of Tip Top ice cream. It was a sweet and satisfying end to an informative and fun morning. As it was a beautiful day, many children stayed back to play in the playground before going home. The ZANZ Management Committee would like to thank Anahita Gonda, Rohinton Fitter and Shahazad Contractor who generously agreed to drive children who did not have transport to and from the factory. We hope to organise more school holiday events in the future for our children and once again will call on parents to assist so that more children can participate and have fun. Kind Regards, ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ Airport Tour |
| Venue | Auckland International Airport |
| Description | Thirty-eight children and adults congregated at the Pakuranga Mall on a cold morning on 11th July waiting to get on a bus to take them to the Auckland International Airport. A rumour amongst the children was that we were going on a double-decker bus. The rumour turned into reality when we walked to the bus stop and lo and behold, a double decker bus was waiting for us! It was as much a surprise for the ZANZ Management Committee as it was for the children. The bus company had decided to send the bus especially for the children who were excited to grab the front seats on the upper deck as they rushed into the bus. Benifer Irani led the adults in Gujarati songs as we traveled to the airport. Thirty minutes later, we were at Auckland airport and were greeted by our tour guide and hostess, Tiana Samasoni, who took us to a private conference room on the third floor of the International terminal. After an interactive presentation on the history of the airport and the different types of people who work there, Tiana had a treat in store for us. She said we had two guest speakers who were bringing their special friends. The speakers were Customs dog handlers who work at the airport and the special friends were two Labrador sniffer dogs. We saw a demonstration of how the dogs can detect certain 'chemicals' on passengers. The children also got a chance to pet the dogs and play with them. Then it was time to make our way to the observation deck where we saw several planes take off and land. Once back at the conference room, we had a delicious lunch from McDonalds followed by cookies. Tiana gave each child goodies including lollies, airport flags, stickers and cards. Three lucky people (Sheroy Gonda, Zack Karai and Thrity Mistry) even won large informative books on the history of the Auckland airport. Soon, it was time to head home and everyone piled into the bus. Spirits were high in spite of the fact that we got stuck in traffic and arrived in Pakuranga an hour later. After thanking our friendly bus driver Dave, everyone went home with smiles on their faces and a head full of airport facts. The ZANZ Management Committee would like to thank all the parents and grandparents who attended the tour and helped supervise the children. We are organising another informative tour for our children in the October school holidays so make sure you sign your kids up fast as these tours fill up very quickly. |

| Event | ZANZ's VISY Recycling Plant tour |
| Venue | VISY Recycling Plant |
| Description | An excited group of children and adults boarded a Ritchies bus in Pakuranga on the morning of 9th October. The bus was going to take us to the VISY Recycling plant. It was a short trip so there wasn't enough time to organise teams for antakshari (as requested by Benifer Irani). Once at the recycling plant, we were taken to the Education Centre where Meredith, our tour guide and educational facilitator, told us about all the different types of products VISY recycles. She quizzed the children on items that can and cannot be recycled and was very impressed by their knowledge and responses. After an informative and interesting animation which showed us how the MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) sorts and separates all the recycled materials collected from different areas in Auckland, she gave us High Visibility vests, safety glasses and closed footwear (for those of us who had open-toed shoes) and took us outside. The whole group was first weighed on the scales which trucks are weighed on. Our group weighed in at 1540 kg. We then made our way to the area where recycling trucks dump their loads. In the brief time we were there, we saw 6 trucks depositing recycled materials collected from Auckland neighbourhoods and even from areas outside Auckland. There was an unpleasant smell (as expected) around the area but we soon got used to it. Due to health and safety reasons we were not allowed inside the recycling plant. On the way back to the education centre, we were weighed once again and somehow had lost 20 kg!! After making sure we hadn't lost anyone in the huge mountain of recycled materials we went indoors. Meredith then told us what happens to plastic, metal, cardboard and glass products after they are recycled and showed us how these materials are converted into new products. The children were amazed to see how a small plastic 'test tube' could be converted into a plastic Coke bottle and how aluminium cans could be recycled indefinitely. After thanking Meredith, we made our way back to Ian (our friendly bus driver) and the bus. We snacked on chips and lollies (thanks to some generous parents who had brought food) and were soon back in Pakuranga. It was an informative and interesting trip enjoyed by everyone who went. Please see how much fun we had by looking at the attached pictures. For more information about VISY recycling and online games and prizes for children, please visit VISY Recycling Plant Kind Regards, ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ Antakshari Night |
| Venue | Bucklands Beach Hall |
| Description | A total of 7 teams (with 6 participants each) took part in the ZANZ Antakshari Night. There were 7 rounds in total; some were easy and others left participants scratching their heads. The last round had a twist. The English meaning of a song was given and the teams had to guess and sing the correct Hindi song. Many teams did very well in this round. The winning team "Rangeelay Ratan" did an awesome job of scoring 140 points by getting points in 12 out of 14 rounds. The runners up, "Fitter ki toh nikal paddi" got 120 points with a close finish against "Saaz aur Awaz" who came third with 110 points. Everyone took the challenge with good spirits except for a few who found it very wearisome. The Zoroastrian Youth of New Zealand (ZYNZ) had put up food stalls as a fundraiser and did a marvellous job selling sausages, bhel puri, mava cakes, cutlets, tea, drinks and fries – everyone loved the food and it was sold out in a flash. The ZANZ Management Committee would like to thank all the volunteers who stayed back and helped clear the chairs and tables. Huge thanks also go to Paeterasp Vevaina who helped Roshni Daruwalla with the organisation of this event and to Baji Antia for once again doing such a fantastic job as MC. |

| Event | ZANZ's Children's Christmas Party |
| Venue | Swimsation East Tamaki |
| Description | Children had a splashing time at the ZANZ Christmas party held at Swimsation East Tamaki. For the first hour, they were in the pool splashing around and having water fights. Lucas, our wonderful lifeguard and host, also held racing competitions between the girls and the boys. It was then time for some well-deserved snacks of burgers, chips and juice. Santa arrived to give presents to all the good boys and girls. The children were then surprised with a really cool treat. ZANZ had hired a Super Kool ice-cream truck and the children each chose an ice-cream cone before they went home.
ZANZ would like to thank our very special ‘Santa’ and all the parent helpers who helped us to set up and then tidy up the place. We have had great feedback from the children about the venue and are considering having a mid-summer pool party early next year, so watch this space. Kind Regards, ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ Navroze Jashan |
| Venue | Bucklands Beach Hall |
| Description |
We at ZANZ started this auspicious day with a well attended Community Jashan at the Bucklands Beach Hall in the morning.
14 priests, young and old chanted in harmony and their prayers left every one in the hall in agreement with the significance of this special day. Over 250 Parsis of Auckland bowed their heads in prayers and it was certainly a very emotional moment for most there, when we chanted the "Humbandagi" as one. A couple from India who are currently in NZ to be with their son and his family ,were so amazed with this huge jashan in this part of the world. The jashan made way for good intermingling with lots of "Navrooze Mubark" greetings and a communal partaking of Chasni , rawa , malida and fruits. A special mention must be made of course of all our silent donors who always give so gladly. Money, fruits & food were donated for the jashan . May their tribe grow . "Parsee thy name is charity" The evening dinner and dance function was a very enjoyable evening of Housie , Spot prizes , Dancing , & Karaoke. All the bathroom singers came out of the closet !! And good food of course - A Special thanks to our caterers Hosi and Maharukh Katki. The high light of the evening was a well orchestrated display of Laser lights, DJ' ing and Special effects by a young member of our community Nash Vazifdar and Zeesh Entertainment. Good show Nash !! Navroze for the ZANZ membership was definitely a good day and an even better evening. A special thanks to all our volunteers and donors and all who came to make this a memorable day. The prize was won by two wonderful ladies. There was not much response for the Jump Rope for Heart session for the children. However two children took an active interest in the skipping rope activity and were well awarded. They were Sanaya Damania and Kayomi Patrawalla. | Description | Dear ZANZ members, The ZANZ Management Committee would like to thank all the participants and spectators who joined us on Saturday 26th at the HRC for the Men's, Women's and Jumble Doubles Badminton tournament. This event was hugely popular and right from the beginning, participants started showing their skills and dexterity on the courts. The popularity can be gauged by the fact that the organisers had to redo the draws for Jumble Doubles to accommodate many participants who turned up at the last minute. It was heart-warming to note that this event attracted many non-members.
Our congratulations to the following winners and runners up in their respective categories: Men's Singles Winner - SHAHANOOR CONTRACTOR (won 11-6 and 11-4) Runner Up - KAIRUS HANSOTIA Women's Singles Winner - ROANA BILIA (won 11-7 and 11-5) Runner Up - JARAFSHAN MISTRY Jumble Doubles Winners - SHAHANOOR CONTRACTOR & DIANA KOTWAL (won 15-13 and 15-8) Runners Up - KAIRUS HANSOTIA & RUSHAD IRANI In the end a prize giving ceremony was held where the winners and runners up were felicitated with medals. Many left the hall with a good feeling of achievement and contentment especially the youth who were thrilled to their bones.
Great performances by Hanoz Bilia, Ruston Mehta and Shahvir Irani our upcoming stars. Look out for them next time. A great display of sportsmanship was shown by all other participants who wanted a special photo taken of them as well. We would like to thank Rushad Anklesaria for providing us with medals at a nominal price, Shahazad Contractor for assistance in hosting this tournament, Anahita Hansotia for taking care of the money matters and Neville Wadia for umpiring most of the games. Everybody pitched in and provided support throughout the tournament so thanks to all of you. The kids also had a grand time and started practising as soon as they noticed that a court was empty. Hosi Katki's mouth watering Chicken rolls and Lamb cutlets satisfied people's appetite and provided a good snack. The Zoroastrians in New Zealand may be few in number, but the spirit they showed on that day and the camaraderie everyone enjoyed shows the quality of our community. We have heard your suggestions and these will be discussed in the next Management Committee meeting. We will come up with exciting events so watch this space! Support ZANZ! This is YOUR organisation. We are just the facilitators. Regards ZANZ Management Committee |

| Event | ZANZ Youth Event - Laser Strike |
| Venue | AMF Bowling, Panmure |
| Description |
Zoroastrian youth who wanted to battle with advanced laser weapons attended the ZANZ Youth Event on the 21st November 2009 at AMF Bowling Panmure. The mission was to score as many points as possible and stay alive. All had to stay very vigilant as this was a very competitive commando-style war where you would assume a combat identity. The laser gun was capable of blasting out different lasers depending on what you chose to battle with. We were divided into 3 teams and had a combat vest and laser gun which would record direct hits as points whilst we negotiated the battleground trying to avoid our enemy. It was indeed a great success as everyone enjoyed it thoroughly with some hot snacks available after the game.
We would like more Zoroastrian youth to join the group, so if you know anyone who would be interested in future events, please feel free to let us know. Also, we would appreciate suggestions for our next youth event. Regards, |

| Event | ZANZ Children's Christmas Party 2009 |
| Venue | Te Tuhi Centre |
| Description |
HO HO HO ...
The ZANZ Christmas Party was held on 5th December 2009 at Te Tuhi Centre. The 52 children who attended had a wonderful time. Many got their faces painted by our hard working volunteers: Delsey and Nazneen Daruwalla, Anahita Aspar and Paricheher Contractor. We thank them for their time and artistic talents that put smiles (and Christmas trees, candy canes, Santas etc.) on the children's faces. 'CHICANE' the Mystery Entertainer had the children (and many parents) spellbound and fascinated for almost an hour. The children built up an appetite after all that magic and had a bite to eat before SANTA and Rudolph came to hand out presents to all the good boys and girls.
This year, the ZANZ committee decided not to charge for the children's Christmas party. We would like to thank Tehmus Mistry, Zenobia Daruwalla, Shahazad Contractor and Firooza Shroff for their donations towards this event. We would also like to thank all the parents who helped with the clean up after the party. We can always depend on you to lend us a hand and this makes all our hard work and planning worthwhile. We wish all our Zoroastrian friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Regards, |

| Event | ZANZ New Year's Eve Function |
| Venue | Bucklands Beach Community Hall |
| Description |
Awesome, amazing, feet-tapping, noisy, wonderful, heat -generating, sweaty and a joyous night. We are sure the people who attended ZANZ New Year’s Eve function could come out with more adjectives. A thrill packed night which was enjoyed by young and old. It was nice to see so many new faces this time. We are sure it will be talk of the month especially with wild dance moves and interesting games.
ZANZ New Year’s eve was held at Bucklands Beach Community Hall. The evening started with a brief introduction and then it was time to play Heads and/or Tails game. The kids had their pizza and by that time the adults wanted more action with good hard rock songs. Our DJ for the night Ge’d provided good numbers with inputs from Homai Mistry. Soon, adults also joined the dance floor with some wild dance moves and the ladies swaying their hips. Teenagers also had their share of fun and danced to their popular tunes.
Adults had their Mughlai dinner by 10:30 and then another game “Dancing on the news paper” thrilled the participants and spectators equally. After each song, the newspaper had to be shrunk to half its size and it proved to be an exciting game for all. The winners were Godrej and Navaz Engineer. After that it was full on till mid-night. A combination of Hindi and English songs kept the crowd enthralled and the mood was getting electric and infectious. At the stroke of mid-night our people started wishing each other with hugs and kisses. We played few numbers and then it was time to wrap up the innings for the day. We would like to thank Homai Mistry for setting the tempo and making this night enjoyable for all. Watch out for this young lady… She has few talents up her sleeve. She and Tanaz Siganporia provided good entertainment for the crowd with some new games being played. We would also like to thank Aakrush Enterprises (Benaifer Irani), Firdaus Homavazir and Koura Bay Wines (Darius Karani) for donating the prizes for this evening. A big thanks to all who attended and then helped us in cleaning and setting the place right. |

| Event | ZANZ members met the LABOUR Party |
| Venue | Te-Tuhi The Mark |
| Description | Attended by -
We have received some excellent feedback from the Labour party representatives who addressed the meeting. They were delighted to have had the opportunity to address our community and get to know us better. The active participation of the 95 people present there on that day was found to be very impressive by them. They highly appreciate the efforts made by the ZANZ Mg Comm .for having provided them with this forum and in fact wish other communities would also make similar efforts !! They have remarked "The Zoroastrian community is obviously an extremely intelligent community." The presentation made by ZANZ with regards to, 'Who we are and where we came from, our Religion, Culture and its background' and the other insights provided by us was found to be very educative and highly appreciated by them. Some of them in fact stated, that they had never heard about us before and hence found this meeting very informative in getting to know more about us. They are impressed by the strides made by our community in New Zealand. They have also expressed ,that they have taken our issues on board and will look at concrete measures to address them. They have enjoyed the very healthy debate they had with our members. The high level of awareness in the community, was noticed and appreciated. The performance put up by our children on that day was found to be remarkable and in fact Minister Chris Carter has expressed a keen desire for us to forward the art work done at the prayer class to him as well. It was most certainly a "proud first" for our community and this managing committee to get a Government Minister and other MPs to actually visit our Association and also have a 'one on one' forum with them. |
